Insight Retreat and the nine contemplations on death and impermanence

21st - 24th June
At Pegasus

The practice of Insight means ‘looking deeply‘ with a vividly awake mind.

To ‘look deeply’ we first need to be in a state of calm, of gentleness and filled with curiosity.

Just ‘looking deeply’, not trying to fix it, to change it, to justify it. Like a benevolent witness we simply  look  at the arising and dissolving of the movements of our mind. So simple, so kind and so wise!

In this context we  will then study and practice the nine contemplations on death and impermanence.

In our culture death is seen as a morbid subject to be denied or avoided. There is the sense of having failed, that this should not happen. Yet we know that one-day we will too pass away. Drawing from the nine contemplations on death and impermanence we will ‘practice dying’, letting go, loosening our grip on self and its many stories.

Leaving fear behind we come to see that death and impermanence direct us to life, to living each moment with clear awareness and tenderness.
